Fort Washington Park Dentist

Teeth whitening may just seem like a cosmetic procedure but research shows that whiter teeth create a more confident smile and that encourages better self-esteem. Our Fort Washington Park Dentist, Elliot Gutman, DMD, performs supervised teeth whitening tailored to each particular patient. The process can be done to reduce discolored or stained teeth, or simply provide our patients with a brighter, whiter smile to face the world with. We can brighten that smile in just one hour and, if properly maintained, the results can last for many years.

Before your whitening process, our Fort Washington Park Dentist will usually clean your teeth, fill any cavities and check your gums to make sure they are healthy enough to proceed. Most in-office procedures use a hydrogen peroxide paste and a high intensity light to speed up the bleaching chemical reaction. The procedure can actually whiten your teeth four to six shades lighter after only one 60 minute treatment. Dr. Gutman also offers teeth whitening systems you can use at home where the whitening can be seen in just days. This involves taking molds of your mouth so we can have soft, custom mouth trays made for you. After a thin ribbon of the chemical is put into the tray, wear it for two hours a day or while you sleep, and your teeth will become their whitest in one or two weeks. The combination of in-office and at-home systems can actually achieve up to 12 to 15 shades of whitening in most patients.

There are many types of teeth whitening procedures available and during your initial consultation Dr. Gutman will explain the procedure and products he prefers and help you decide what type of tooth whitening is best for you. Whether in-office or at home, the strength of the whitening gels and the level of whiteness desired will also be decided on. If you should choose to go with an at-home system, Dr. Gutman and his dedicated staff will be available for you throughout the treatment period if you should have any questions or concerns. When monitored and supervised by our Fort Washington Park Dentist, teeth whitening procedures are considered safe and very effective.
